Vegas + Girls Weekend + Margaret Cho
We had an amazing time in Vegas! As soon as I process the pictures from my digital camera I'll put them up!
The trip started Thursday night. Rafael, Mariano, and myself packed into my car and headed over to Vegas! We got off on a little bit of a late start because Mariano was late...as usual. We were all in high spirits and ready for the weekend to come! We arrived pretty late to Vegas and it was obvious that it was too late to go out. So we settled in to Franklin's apartment and drank...and drank. Franklin was a great host! He made sure everyone was well lubricated :) His condo was so cute too!! It was huge and very close to the strip.
It was funny because Mariano usually holds back from drinking while he is in LA. He didn't hold back Thursday night. He was so fucked up! It was funny to me and Rafael. After a couple of hours of drinking we all went to "sleep". Rafael and I shared a room, Jeff, Franklin's friend, slept in the living room, and Mariano and Franklin "shared a bed". The next morning/mid-day we woke up hungry and Mariano woke up mostly hung-over. We decided to head down to Bahama Breeze. I love Bahama Breeze! I knew there was one in Vegas and I told everyone we should go there. I loved Bahama Breeze in Florida and sadly there is none near Los Angeles.
After lunch we headed over to the Planet Hollywood Casino. It used to be the Aladdin. Although I miss the Aladdin I have to say PH was very nice! They kept the mall which was one. We gambled for a bit, I won $300!!! Then we crossed the street and headed over to the Bellagio. I don't remember gambling there but we went to the world's largest chocolate fountain and had some gelato! We took some pictures outside and then headed back to the condo to get ready for the night. We all went to dinner around the fruit loop. We went to a cute little Sushi place that had the best Veggie Tempura Rolls I've ever had! Afterwards we headed out to the bars. We went to so many bars that night I don't even remember them all. First we went into Gipsy. They had a drag show benefiting the community so we stayed and watched it.
After the show we were all fucked up. We headed over to the country/bear bar. It was packed. We were there for about 30 minutes and we met up with one of Franklin's girlfriends. After that we went to another bar called FreeZone. We had some more drinks, danced some, and then I was paddled fucking hard by one of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. IT FUCKING HURT BAD! Thank God I was drunk. After that we went to Piranha/ 8 1/2. It was a very cool bar that were two bars in one. One seemed more local and friendly the other could have been in the middle of South Beach. We were probably there until 3:00AM. I was fucking exhausted. I was drunk, sobered up, drunk again, tipped the cute strippers, and then I was just tired!!!! Franklin was drunk as can be and did not want to go home!
We finally left and went to a mexican dive restaurant for some Tacos al Pastor. My new favorite! And then it was off to bed. The next morning Mariano and Franklin weren't waking up. So Rafael, Jeff, and I headed over to the Orleans Hotel to get a lunch "snack". And gamble some more! I didn't win anything. After we got some food from the kiosk and gambled a little bit we headed back! We had early dinner reservations that night at FireFly which is a tapas restaurant. It was soo good! The appetizers were amazing. The Sangria was top-notch too!! It was very cool. We met a ton of Franklin's friends who I can't even remember now!
After dinner we headed to the Palms to check out Margaret Cho! It was so cool to see her at the Pearl theatre because that is where the Video Music Awards were for MTV where Britney did her opening act! The show was very funny but it was kinda the same routine that I saw her do before during the True Colors tour. I was kinda disapointed that I heard so many of the same jokes! We still had a great time though, it was Margaret Cho! Franklin and Jeff were supposed to meet her backstage, they won this auction that they paid good money for, but there was a mix-up and the meet-and-greet was before! Franklin needed a drink!
We did another tour of the bars in Vegas. This time I think we went to four bars. I lost track! Franklin was taking us from bar to bar to bar. The last bar we went to was this hole-in-the-wall. When we walked in it was so quiet and the people were scary! We were fucked up, again, so by the time we left we animated everyone in the bar. It was cute! We called it a night after that because Mariano, Rafael, and myself had to drive back to LA! The next morning we all went to the Orleans to do the breakfast buffet. It was the first and only buffet we did! We said our goodbyes and headed to Los Angeles.
The car trip was fun because we all used it as therapy! It was very cool. We got to LA in no time! We all agreed that we should do more of these trips and that we should plan some in the near future!! And that was the Vegas Girls night out trip.

Germans in LA
Roscoe, my good friend from college called me up the other day. Roscoe and I were really close in college. He was the one who gave me Lola for a birthday present! He's now living in Germany as a teacher. He called from San Francisco so I knew he was in town! He asked me if I was still in LA and how far that was from San Francisco! Roscoe had never seen my LA apartment or even visited Southern California for that matter!
THe last time we saw each other was when we were both in Miami for Christmas break. He told me he would try to work something out so that he could come and visit me for a couple of days. This was Saturday. Sunday he called and said he could definately come and visit with his boyfriend Norman. I was so thrilled! I couldn't wait to see Roscoe and show him around LA. My boss was really cool and let me take Wednesday and Thursday off. He had already given me Friday off because I was going to Vegas to see Margaret Cho with friends.
I was so nervous waiting for Roscoe in the airport. It was crazy! We hadn't seen each other in years! His flight finally got in! We wasted no time in moving forward from wherever our friendship had last left off. Our friendship is good that way. I got to meet his boyfriend Norman. At first he was really quiet but then he warmed up to me. Roscoe had told me how they didn't do anything gay while in San Francisco because they were staying with a straight friend.
I was sure to show them GAY GAY GAY Los Angeles. So we headed to my apartment. Lola was super excited to see Roscoe. I don't know if it was because she remembered him or if she's always excited! But you know how that goes. We all got settled in, refreshed ourselves, and then we went out on the town. The first stop I wanted to take them to was Jackie Beat's show at Here Lounge. They loved it! It was a small crowd, but it was a Monday. Jackie did her usual live performance parodies. It was great! We also got drunk! That happened a lot!
Tuesday we went to MJ's in Silverlake for RimJob. At first we got there a little too early. But in an hour the bar was full at capacity. There were tons of strippers. We went with Rafael who was ready to party, party, party! At first Roscoe and the boyfriend were timid and they didn't want to tip the strippers. But we got drunk! So inhibitions were pushed to the side. Soon Norman and Roscoe were tipping their favorite stripper non-stop! It was too funny. Did I mention that we were drunk?
By Wednesday we were super exhausted. I took them by Venice. I don't think they liked it too much. Which is weird because everyone I take to Venice loves the whole bohemian feel to it. I could tell they were not liking it! We then moved the party over to Santa Monica. We spent most of the time at the 3rd Street Promenade. They loved that! Norman really liked the area. The weather was nice and cool too. We didn't spend too much time in Santa Monica because we were going to Hamburger Mary's for Legendary Bingo. Bingo was so much fun! The special celebrity guests were Calpernia from Logo's Transamerica Love Story Reality show, and Ross the Intern from the Tonight Show. We got drunk again!
After the show I was going to show them Porn Industry night @ FuBar with Chi Chi LaRue. But somehow that's over. We noticed that it was a bit weird because they had tables out. We had a couple of drinks and were about to leave when Candis Cayne, told us if we leave now we'll miss the show. We didn't know who she was! So we said, "What show?" And she said, "My Show!". So we decided to stay. We were so glad that we did!!! It was an amazing drag show. Candis was beautiful. Her routines were great! We all had an amazing time. After the show we headed back home exhausted and drunk.
Thursday we were supposed to go to the Hollywood Sign and eat at the Farmer's Market. But they had a flight to catch at LAX at 2:00PM. So we woke up just in time to go to the Coffee Bean and then off to the airport. We said our goodbyes and they want me to come visit them in Berlin! We settled that I would visit them next summer during Berlin Pride!! FUN FUN FUN!! When I got home I cleaned up the place a bit and started packing for Vegas....

Joan Rivers: A Work in Progress
I was very excited to see Joan Rivers. I had heard tons of rave reviews. Thursday night Rafael, Mariano, and I met at my house. We all jumped into my car and went to the show. We had never been to the Geffen PlayHouse, so it took us a while to find it :) The ride there was fun because it was a primer for our trip to Vegas!
The playhouse was so cute! It's very intimate and it has a great little patio where we had some drinks before the show. The crowd was mostly elderly, but as the show was about to start it started to fill up with the gays. They had this cute little pre-show right before you went to the seating area. They had a red carpet set up and two mock-hosts on a television show asking people what they were wearing. Once you got to your seat you realized that it was being filmed and shown on the big screen in the theatre.
The show was great. It was a play and not a comedy routine like she usually does at nightclubs. I think that is what Mariano was expecting. He didn't like it so much. The sound was a little low so we had trouble hearing some parts of the show. I can't complain though because we got half-off tickets through GoldStar Events. The show had some very funny parts, and some very sad parts. While I did think the show I can see why Mariano didn't like it. Her comedy routine would have been a lot more funny :)
After the show we decided to go back to West Hollywood and grab some drinks before the night was over. We went to Motherlode where I drank a little too much! Mariano kept buying me sour apple martini's. The Motherlode is known for their cheap and strong drinks! It was also kareoke night, so Rafael was having fun. He never goes up and sings though!
We ended the night on a great note. And it definately pumped us up for the Vegas trip to come!
It's funny because I had purchased the tickets for Joan Rivers and then I got an email from Frontiers Magazine stating that all newsletter subscribers had free tickets to the show for Friday! They even had a post-party afterwards. I didn't get to go though because I had a friend and he bailed out at the last minute. I didn't want to go alone!

Varla Jean: A Foreign Tongue
Rafael and I checked out Varla Jean's new show at Ultra Suede: Varla Jean in a Foreign Tongue. The show was great. Varla danced her little heart out, she sang live, had a ton of costume changes, and even had a multimedia aspect to the show! It was great fun! We had a great time. It also helped that we both had two cocktails each!
We had walked down to Ultra Suede in West Hollywood from my apartment. After the show we wanted to check out Kareoke night at Hamburger Mary's which is hosted by Jackie Beat. So we sped-walked our little asses all the way down Santa Monica Blvd to Hamburger Mary's. We came right in time to catch the show start. We had some large Margarita's and some nachos. YUM! There were some good singers and a super hot guy who couldn't sing! Rafael was getting tired, so we decided to go home half-way through the show.
I think Rafael was very excited to go out because now he wants to go on our Vegas trip. So far it's Mariano, Franklin, Rafael, and myself to go check out Margaret Cho! It's gonna be a gay, gay, gay weekend!! I can't wait. We're also going to check out Joan Rivers in her new show next Thursday. The show is called Joan Rivers: A Work in Progress by a Life in Progress. I've been wanting to see it for a while since Heidi recommended it and it's gotten great reviews! I'll let you guys know how good it is when I see it!! This month has totally been Theatre March Madness! Sweeny Todd, Varla Jean Merman, and now Joan Rivers! Fun Fun Fun!

Demon Barber from Fleet Street
We were going to have dinner at the Pinot Cafe which is on the elvated terrace overlooking downtown at the Music Center. The prices were a little too high so we decided to go the SubWay! You can't beat the Dinner for 2 for 8 bucks thing! It was nice and refreshing to take our time and eat before the show. The weather was beautiful and the sun was setting just as we were taking our seats.
The play was ok. Act I was kind of slow for me. Everything seems to happen at the end of Act II. What was really cool is that all the actors handled the musical instruments as well. There was no orchestra. The actors never left the stage. When they were not acting, they were playing instruments. It was very cool. The play itself was very muted and simple. The set didn't have any special effects. Heidi told me that I would enjoy the movie a whole lot better!
So there you have it!
This Thursday I'm going to check out Varla Jean's A Foreign Tongue. Varla Jean was one of the "actresses" in a great movie called Girls will be Girls. If you haven't seen the movie check it out! It's hilarious! Seriously. There are great one-liners in that movie! I'm taking Rafael for his birthday! We're gonna have tons of fun!

Summer Plans and True Colors Tour 2008
I couldn't decide what to do for my birthday this year. I wanted to go to Key West, which is my favorite destination ever, but I don't have that much free time off work. So I decided to go to my second favorite vaca spot, Palm Springs! I'll be staying at the Desert Paradise. I can't wait! I'm so ready for a vacation. Desert Paradise is the resort owned by Dale who we met a couple of months ago. This is the first time I actually stay at the resort so it will be an amazing adventure! I don't know who's coming with me yet. It will probably be Rob, Mariano, or Joe. Or possibly even Rafael. Who knows!?
Last time I went to Palm Springs it was with Rob. We stayed at the Desert Moon which was kinda fun because they were having a part for Odyssey Magazine. I'm definately going to be spending most of the time in the pool or jacuzzi, but once I do go out I defiantely want to hit the shops, and do some hiking up the tram in the San Jacinto mountains. I've already planned it all out. All I have to do now is just get there :)
I also took the first step and signed up for my LASIK exam at the end of this month. If everything goes well I"ll probably have the operation the first or second week of April. And once that happens I can say goodbye to having to wear glasses!! I do enjoy my glasses but it's time to bare! It's annoying when you are in the pool or jacuzzi and you can't see jack because you don't have your glasses on!!!
Franklin texted me today that the True Colors Tour is coming back this year! Luis and I went last year and it was amazing. It was a concert spear-headed by Cyndi Lauper for HRC. Last year the host was Margaret Cho and we got to see a whole bunch of acts like Dresden Dolls, Rosie O'Donnel, Erasure, Debbie Harry, and Cyndi Lauper herself. This year promises to be as much fun with B-52's, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Spector. I can't wait! The tickets are expensive, but they are for a great cause! I'll be putting up some pictures of the event!
This weekend I have another Great Outdoors hike to go to. This Sunday we are heading to the Portugese Bend around Palos Verdes in LA. It should be an amazing hike! It will be my second event with Great Outdoors! And tomorrow Heidi and I will be catching Sweeny Todd at the Ahmanson Theatre in downtown LA.

Margaret Cho in Vegas and Sirius Subscription
So I got this itch to listen to gay radio lately. I couldn't find anything free online so I turned to Sirius. I knew Sirius had a dedicated gay channel, OutQ, but it's not free! They offer an internet streaming option and better yet they offer a three day trial offer. So of course I got the free-trial and the rest is history! I'm totally hooked. So much so that I got a subscription for myself! I can't believe it. It really is entertaining and it makes the work day just fly by!
My favorite shows have to be: the Frank DeCaro Show which is hilarious, the Michelangelo Signorile Show which is serious and political, and finally the Derek & Romaine Show which is scandalous! I love the channel so much I'm even thinking about getting a radio transceiver for my car! And I have an iPod integrated solution for my car, so I must really like this stuff!
The other big news this month is that I'm heading over to Vegas at the end of the month to check out the new Margaret Cho show: Beautiful. Mariano, Franklin, and I are going to check out the show. Franklin works in Vegas and we're all crashing at his place for the weekend. I'll be sure to bring my camera because it's going to be a crazy, crazy weekend. I can feel it! There will definately be a lot of laughing, a lot of drinking, and possibly a lot of hooking up.
If I'm not completly broke by the end of the trip I'm thinking of joining Franklin in Palm Springs the next weekend after Margaret Cho in Vegas! Only time and funds will tell if that happens! I really do love Palm Springs. It's like my local Key West. Speaking of which, I really wanted to do Key West for my birthday, which is coming up bitches MAY 14th, but I don't think I can take that much time off! So I might just spend a long weekend in Palm Springs. If all the stars align and we can get a room at the Desert Paradise. It's the hotel that is owned by Dale who is Heidi's friend.
We'll see what happens!!! At least the sun is out, everything is warm and LA, and summer is on it's way!
